November to February when winter birds can be seen in large numbers. April to June for birds in breeding plumage, reptiles and mammals at waterholes. Itinerary can be designed for the period from July to September for Lesser Florican, breeding birds and passage migrants.

Day 1
Delhi / Mumbai to Ahmedabad to Little Rann of Kutch

Your flight will arrive in Ahmedabad (we suggest in the morning) and your guide will be there to meet you outside the airport building. From here you’ll be driven (approx. 2 hours) by air conditioned car to the Little Rann of Kutch. On the journey you may see vultures, other birds of prey and potentially several resident species like Open-billed Stork, Comb Duck, Spot-billed Duck, Sarus Crane etc. We will arrive at Royal Safari Camp, Bajana to check in and in time for lunch. This eco-friendly resort is imaginatively designed using local materials to resemble a local village and has cottages with long wicker-beds, writing table, a dressing room and modern tiled bathroom. The huge campus of the resort has ponds visited by pelicans, kingfishers, Grey and Indian Pond Herons, and Black Ibis. In the gardens there are often Yellow-footed Green Pigeons, Bluethroats, Shikras and other birds. They have their own agricultural fields and plantations, which are good for larks, pipits and wheatears. If time permits we will include a jeep safari to the Nava Talav area of the Little Rann of Kutch, in an open-topped 4WD vehicle. The Little Rann of Kutch is a sanctuary for the endangered Asiatic Wild Ass. The Wild Ass is almost guaranteed and Nilgai and Blackbuck Antelope, Chinkara (Indian Gazelle), Indian and Desert Foxes, Jackal and Gerbil are possible. The Indian Wolf can be seen if we are lucky. The Rann is good for larks, Desert and other wheatears, Desert Warbler, Quails and Button-quails and Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse. There is also good a chance of seeing Macqueen’s Bustard. In the evening, it is possible to see Aquila eagles and harriers coming in to roost on open-ground.

Meals:
Lunch and evening meal at your resort
Accomodation:
Royal Safari Camp in a cottage, Bajana

Day 2
Little Rann of Kutch

Early morning drive to the ‘Bets’ in the Little Rann of Kutch. These were probably islands when the Rann was part of the Arabian Sea. The Bets are highlands rising over the saline desert plains. Macqueen’s Bustard is likely and a selection of 13 species of larks (including Sparrow Larks) can be seen. Return for breakfast and then walk in Bajana Village, where Yellow-footed Green Pigeon and other birds can be seen around the local lake. Those interested in handicrafts, can look at embroidery and silk-weaving as well. After lunch and a rest, we depart for a drive to a wetland area in the Little Rann of Kutch. Greater and Lesser Flamingos, Sarus, Demoiselle and Common Cranes, Black-headed and Glossy Ibises, Painted and Open-billed Storks, Spoonbill, Greylag and Bar-headed Geese, Purple Swamphen, Indian Moorhen, Grey and Purple Herons, Ruff and various pelicans, sandpipers, stints, and other waders and passerines are also possible.
